Homemade Drain Cleaner and Declogger

Mirj -- great idea to post this "recipe". It works very well, I've used this combination many times. Here's another one for you: I had already tried this remedy on a REALLY bad grease clog, to no avail. My grandpa just happened to call at that time, and I --- well, I whined to him. He told me what he used to do when he was the manager/fix-it guy for a trailer park: get out your handheld blow-dryer. Make sure there is no water on the floor where you're standing so you won't electrocute yourself, then open up the access to the drain pipe - that little trap thingy. Aim the hot air right on that, and it will melt the grease and let everything slide on through. My Grandpa Rocks!

This really did work! It foamed a lot at first. I think the trick was to keep doing it. After trying this, I looked it up, and this is also recommended as periodic maintenence procedure. Just flush your drains with vinegar and baking soda every so often, like every month or so, and it keep them clear and fresh - so you don't get a clog problem!
